exterior entrance door

entrance door is stained & sealed w/polyurethane. I would like to paint over it. Anyway to do it without stripping to bare wood?
Thanks a lot, Robert

If the poly is in good shape, you might get away with a scuff pad for a good bonding surface.

I would give it a good sanding and apply a quality bonding primer, then apply two coats of a quality finish. Zinsser makes a number of bonding primers which you can get at the big boxes.
