exterior caulking
I built a back porch supported by wood columns. I installed wood molding at the base of each column. The moldings warped, leaving gaps at the seams. The caulk I used to fill in the gaps will not firm up. It retains the consistency of toothpaste. Does anyone know why. I have used the same caulk on the walls inside my house to cover imperfections and it dries to a solid state. I am completely confused!! Thank you for the help.

what kind?

Yup? What kind? Is it rated for exterior use? Is its expiration date within range?

Another greater concern. What material did you use for the moldings? Fasteners? The fact that they are warping is not good and caulking continually increasing gaps may not be the solution to the ultimate problem here.

Did this trim get primed and painted on all sides before installing?
What type wood was used?
