Do latex and water mix?

From Lowes brush care suggestions:

First dip the brush in the solvent suggested by the manufacturer. This is done before painting to prevent paint dry-up on the bristles and for smooth application.

O.K.

In the case of an oil based I would know that solvent/thinner can be used this way. What about Latex? Is water the solvent in this case? During my last exterior job I did not try dipping the brush in water because I was not sure that this would be right and I did not want to find out on the front of the house.

Thanks alot

Yes, you would dip it into some water. Be aware that doing so can cause the paint to run down the handle easier if you're not careful. I would dip it, then kick/spin the excess water out.

As a general practice, I don't dip my brush in anything before painting, but it is cleaned frequently during use. I wouldn't consider this a critical step working with latex.

Don't saturate the brush, I usually just get a little water on my hand and rub it onto the brush to make it damp, not wet. That way I don't have to abuse the brush, kicking, slapping and spinning.
