Good point. With respect to the coverage of the Behr paint in that particular article, I think that's relevant to DIYers. But with respect to the site as a whole, good point.

Yet these sites get thousands of hits everyday.
No doubt, I don't disagree with you. Part of what I'm saying is that from a homeowner's point of view, they don't know Jack Pauhl and they don't know anyone here. Everyone claims to have experience. So from the DIYer point of view, they have no reason to think we're any more credible than anyone else. You know your experience, the homeowner only knows he is getting 4 different opinions and he doesn't know your experience. Some people seem to think a quick reply like "Behr paint sucks" is going to convince a homeowner. It doesn't. A thorough, in-depth review like Pauhl's is more likely to get their attention, if not be actual ironclad proof.

This also relates to what Brushjockey was saying - that website is geared toward high production professionals.

For that reason, I rarely link to that site from here. However, I do think that one report was relevant. Unless he was "cheating" and laying on the Behr much thicker than a typical homeowner would. I would assume he would have said if he did that. I don't know what his motive would be for doing otherwise.

Jeff, we don't bash Behr just because Home Depot sells it. If you keep using the stuff, you are going to see what we are talking about. I know you are big on different quality lines of paint but the kind of failures you are going to run into shouldn't happen from any quality of paint.

That could be, but until I run into them, or see some real empirical study, I'm going to stick with what works. I've used different forms of Behr paint here and there over the years, and have never seen a failure of any sort. Only once did I find a paint that actually went on the wall wrong (aesthetically), and that was Sherwin Williams. I took a sample to them and they agreed with me, but they couldn't fix it and they couldn't expain it - they just refunded my money while scratching their heads. All other paint failures I've experienced have been due to some other reason, such as preparation or inappropriate substrate for the paint.

One possible explanation is that Behr paint used to be of lower quality in the past, and some people are simply repeating their experience from 20 years ago. As far as the Ultra line goes, I'm actually somewhat impressed so far - to the point where if a customer requests it, I'm confident putting it on for them.

These are recent problems people have had. We even had a Behr rep come in the forum recently saying they were aware of the issues.

That's true---My blood pressure goes up every time I think of the money and hours of my life that crap has stolen from me.

It does seem that at least two people in North America have had success with it---

Where is a link to that, and what were the issues happening?

See, they know exactly the problems people have been having with their products.

I am just wondering if the poster of this question walked away thinking "yeah, i got an answer" or "cr*p, what was my question" after 5 pages of Behr paint debate.

As a simple homeowner, i come to get an answer to a question and threads like this (although enjoyable to my debate gene), leave me still wondering what i should do. And then, THEN i remember what it is. I go back and see the first couple/few answers and there it is.

Don't get me wrong, i enjoy you guys/girls .. whatever : )

I am not a professional painter .. and i am old and on a very tight budget .. so please be gentle with me if you respond.

Oh, and most importantly. Thank you to the people who posted that recognized that some of us (DIYers) are on a fixed income and can only afford what we can afford. I mean, after all, if i had money I'd hire one of you!! : )

Sleep well everyone!

Came back to add this: And i used to go to Sherwin Williams, but their staff has gotten a little 'snobbish' and dont seem to have time for 'non-contractors' or a homeowner that can only afford to do one room once in a while. And has questions because it is not an everyday thing.

Restorative sleep to all!! Goodnight.
