Dimensional/structural lumber as facia boards

Half of my facia is rough cut lumber and the other half is smooth 2x8s. All of the 2x8s are peeling terribly. No problem with the rest. Is this a normal problem? What should I do to get better adhesion? Do I have to sand it?

Dimensional/structural lumber as facia boards

Scrape/sand/Prime, then paint. Most problems with facia boards is that they do not get paint on all sides and edges before install. Or they were painted while the wood was still very very wet. Good Luck............
