custom stain an seal of door jams and trim

I have a customer who is suffering from powder post beetles and needs some trim replaced. He calls it a bleached oak look and said the last guy he used mixed paint and varnish together to get duplicate the look on new pieces. I have not experimented with this yet mostly because upon research I keep seeing "DO NOT MIX TOGETHER" from other posters.

Just looking for a point in the right direction.

Just add a small amount of white oil based paint to the vanish and you will be fine.

just do not use latex paint... this is why some claim to avoid this process

never tried it. But the principle should be the same.... do not mix water and oil
