cleaning glass before aplying putty

I want to reputty my windows, the glass is alright but the putty has crackt. Should i clean the glass where the old putty tought it, so that the new putty will stick better to the glass? If so, what can i use to clean it.

btw english is not my first language.

If you are re-glazing your windows (and it sounds like what you're doing, the glaze is an awful lot like putty), it is a good idea to clean the glass after you have removed the old. cracked, glazing

I haven't noticed a difference in cleaners, but I usually use a window cleaner or rubbing alcohol
