Choosing a paint primer...

Hi All,

I'll be finishing my basement in all drywall. I've read that the BM Fresh Start and SW PrepRite are the better primers. Any reason why I should choose one over the other?

ill be using s/w prep rite pro block tomorrow. i like it. b/m fresh start, cant really say from experience but i would say its a top primer and you would have no problems . flip a coin you cant go wrong

I used both for years. People I trust posting on the site seem to like Zinser priming products and they might save you a bit. Just stay away from box store stuff.

All depends what the finish sheen of your paint is. If it is an eggshell or more, you want a prime that will seal the rock good enough to have " enamel holdout"- which means the surface won't continue to suck the sheen out of your finish coats after the prime.
Either of your choices are very good- as sds said some like me like Zinsser products ( Which BTW sds- are found at the box stores..)I would have no problem using Zin's 123 for that.
