Choice of Paint Brand

We recently bought our first home, and need some advice on paint brands. We currently have 2 quotes from 2 independent painting contractors. Both use different brands of paint. One contractor uses Benjamin Moore Eggshell Finish for the interior walls and the other uses Glidden Diamond Matt finish.

My question is: Does anyone have any experience using either of these brands and which would be the recommended brand ?

Thank you

They are both good, but I'm leaning more towards the Benny Moore.

I sub for BenMoore but Glidden always rates high as well. Both are good paint.

Thank you for responding to our thread. Your opinions are much appreciated.

We are currently also leaning towards Benny Moore, because we learnt yesterday that, here in Canada, Glidden paints have been bought out by ICI . We were told that ICI makes poor quality paints - the likes of Color Your World etc. Any truth to that statement ?

Thanks

All paint manufacturers put out several lines of paint, ranging from good to bad. Even Ben Moore sells 'apartment grade' paint. Whichever brand, just be sure to get top of the line.
Ben Moore's would be Regal Wall Satin, or Regal Matte finish.
The names might be slightly different in Canada.

Benjamin Moore Collection is what the top line is named in Canada.
ICI also makes great paint. They are not one of the biggest paint
manufacturers for nothing. They are a lot bigger than B.Moore.
We use B. Moore a lot but there is nothing wrong with any major
manufacturer's top line.

Sherwin Williams?

Anyone have any opinions on sherwin williams? They are running a buy one, get the second half off -- pluss an addition 20% off of that. They have a number of different types and I am unsure as to which to use. I am painting on plaster & will be using fairly bright paint (red/orange colors) ...

thanks
