Changing colour of hanging bubble chair

Hi

I have a pink transparent hanging bubble chair. Made from acrylic.

I was wondering how I would go about changing the colour. What options I have, etc.

Also, I assume any spray job would result in a opaque finish.

Appreciate any advice you could throw my way.

I have attached a picture of a similar chair.

Far out Man! Welcome to the forum. Enjoy our Zen.
As to opaque, absolutely. I think the only type of finish that would do there is spray. So, if you don't have access to a pro sprayer, equipment or person, then you're using rattle cans. I'm thinking Fusion by Krylon would work with that, here's the link. It's formulated to bond to plastics. The question is, do you have a place to do that scale of spraying?

Fusion would do it. Rustoleum also makes a rattle can product for plastic. Fusion comes in more colors though.

Maybe Fusion does now too but Rustoleum makes a plastic primer in both spray cans and liquid. Once on you can then apply anything over the top. So says the manufactuer anyhow. I personally have only used Fusion. Nothing against Rustoleum though---just no experience with it.

I am thinking, if you have no place to spray this thing? A body shop might put the liquid primer and whatever you want over the top of it for a few bucks.

Sure some pink faux fur cushions would not solve the problem?

What if you installed a coloured light in it? Use the power of light filtering!

Put a blue light to make it a green chair??

I wonder if there exists a light filtering spray-on product? Just an idea, sorry i have no research to back this up

I always wanting one of those chairs as a kid! Where in the world did you find that? Anyways, I don't really know how you would go about changing the color. I like the person's idea of a colored light.

keep in mind that anytime you paint plastic or glass it will tend to scratch off the slick surface. I have done lots of faux painting, and murals in my lifetime. I cringe everytime someone talks about painting plastic.. but they do make paint in spray cans as mentioned above that is specifically for sticking to plastics, although I doubt it last very long, it has to be one of the better alternatives in the paint line.
The light idea was pretty neat. It may just work! If you put a blue light in a pink chair your not going to get green, you would get purple.
If you put a green light againt teh pink it would turn more brownish.
Think about your colorwheel.. If you put a yellow light it would be orangeish...
It is a neat chair.. I would just throw some neat snazzy colored patterned pillows with just a hint of the pink, and pick up heavy on the other color you like better.. play it down, and tie the color to the room and work with it... That chair is fabulous just the way it is.

Actually you are talking about reflective color theory. The person suggesting adding a color light is talking in transmitted color theory and along the same lines as works for printing color photographs. Color passing through something works differently than when reflected off of an opaque surface. You cannot get orange for example mixing the primary colors of transmitted color magenta (red) and yellow.

Ok that is great to know... I was thinking that it could be like rope lights run around the back side of the rim....
I was thinking on the way to work.. what about that RHINO stuff they spray on truck beds. They say in the commercial I have seen that they can spray anything and it is extremely durable. And comes in MANY colors.
I would check that out as an option
