Ceiling Paint - Water Leak?

1 Attachment(s)
Hi

I am brand new to this site so apologies if posted in wrong area etc,

I painted the ceiling in my front room today as there was a small leak upstairs approx six months ago ( I let the sink overrun :( ) and as you can see from the photo, there is still a stain showing in the ceiling.

Can anyone advise what paint or primer or anything that can be done to remove this?

I am a total newbie at DIY so any advice would be very much appreciated.

Hello from Dublin,Ireland also :-)

There is quite a bit of information regarding your problem already posted in different threads. Did you do a search using the words water stain or painting water damage?? If you do that you will see LOTS of info.

Now that said. I am not sure what products are available for you in Ireland. I prefer to use an oil based stain killing primer for water damage. I find that in using a latex stain killer the yellow can sometimes bleed thru again. I know here in the U.S. you can buy spray cans of Kilz (just make sure to protect everything from overspray from the can) or you can get just a quart of stain killing primer brush that on, once dry paint with your ceiling paint and you are good to go.

And Welcome to a really GREAT site for your home improvement needs. Lots of fun people here, let alone the great information.
