Question

Ceiling paint peeling

My bedroom's ceiling paint is peeling. It also appears to be sagging a little. Is that water damage for sure? I'm at a lost at the moment.

It sounds like it could be water (hopefully not). Is there any yellowness in that area? Can you get a picture of the area in question?

There's something real bad going on there
If your bed is underneath that, I'd move it away

You'll want to head up into the attic CAREFULLY and see what's up there

There's definetly a moisture issue. Better take a look from the attic ASAP! Don't step on the drywall ceiling while your up there. How long has that been noticable?

I started noticing it a month ago and it got progressively worse. It's been dry out here, no rain. I wonder where the water is from.

I agree with SirMixalot. What ever it is, it's important that you investigate and remedy the problem ASAP.

If you haven't gotten any rain lately, then I'd be concerned that the moisture seeping through your ceiling is urine from an animal who's built a home in your attic.

Also, you might want to go up into your attic with two pieces of two foot by four foot plywood to distribute your weight over 3 or more ceiling joist instead of just one or two.

And, also check the rafters along the roof line above that spot. It could be bats.

Found the problem. My heater/AC system (compressor outdoor) is in the attic and it is leaking water. The insulation is wet which explains everything. This is bad news.

The wet ceiling could have fallen on you while you were sleeping

Thanks folks. I appreciate all your advice. I'm now just waiting for the AC contractor to come figure out why the condensation unit is leaking. Probably something's clogged. I bought this old house and I really don't understand why would someone put the condensation unit in the attic. Though I'm not sure where else it can be placed.

Here's job we did yesterday after a roof leak.

The ceiling fell down.

Re-insulated, drywalled and ready for texture.
