Ceiling paint cracking
We just had our ceilings redone and we went ahead and used ceiling paint. There are signs of the paint pulling away. Can I use primer paint to seal the ceiling over the ceiling paint?

Ceiling paint cracking
Supply more information:
1. Is the paint peeling everywhere or mostly at taped seams and nailhead areas? 2. Are the back of the paint chilps chalky or dusty? 3. Is it peeling to a primer or to the drywall? 4. Was a primer used; which one? 5. What was the method of application? 6. How many square feet was covered and how many gallons did you use? 7. Which brand and series was applied? Answers to these questions should help toward a resolution. |

Ceiling paint cracking
we removed the popcorn texture and had a nkockdown texture applied. We allowed the ceiling to dry before continuing. We have approximately 1500 sq.feet of ceiling and the only problem areas appeared in the living room sky light and spare bedroom. Not a large areas but will it get worse. We had our contractor look at the problem areas and he indictaed the chips are chalky. They are not at seams or nail heads We did not apply a primer first but used a ceiling paint that we bought from Lowes. I want to ease my mind, and therefore pose the question will applying a primer over the ceiling paint resolve the issue. The ceiling paint is latex based. looking forward to any suggestion that will help.
Thank you Project Master |

After the removal of popcorn, a primer is generally used. Scrape off anything loose and prime with a fast-dry oil-based primer, such as Zinsser Cover Stain. Priming over the existing, sound ceiling paint is useless.
If the surface areas that have peeled are chalky (Perhaps a soft 'Easy-Sand' joint compound was used) a better primer to use is Zinsser Gardz. |
