Ceiling Acoustic Repair

Hello; I tried to repair a small patch about 3 FT^2. I installed and nailed the drywall piece on the ceiling and then after the surroundings were covered with plastic I sprayed 2 cans of pop-corn aerosol acoustic patch.
But it does not look very good. I do not want to rent the professional tools with the hoses to spray the pre-mixed acoustic material. I was wondering if there is any method that they sell and I can apply with a roller or a brush.Because this is such a small job, I do not want to call the professional acoustc man who has the proper tools. Thanks fo any advice.

Blending ceiling texture is really difficult unless it is in an out of the way spot. There are lots of variables to make it not look like a patch- similar material, similar density, wherever it overlaps existing it will be doubled up and show.

Many times it requires taking it all down and starting over. Sorry for the bad news, but it is a pro job, and not even all pros are good at it.

X2, ditto and I agree
Start over.... try another method, and try another one again.

It takes some do-overs and sometimes it will just never look right...to you.
The casual observer will probably never notice it.

You can buy polystyrene popcorn ceiling type pellets at a good paint store you can mix in with high bond primer. Good luck.

As I have said on this site before, popcorn ceilings are usually the work of the devil and a combination of the cheapest paint availed with pellets sprayed on over non-primed surfaces. I usually just bit the bullet or had clients take them down all together. It goes fast unless you got 1 in 1,000 that was actually done right.

Popcorn ceilings should be outlawed along with flat head screws and mdf siding.

i think this is were the problem starts........

Grown adults who always are taught, "you get what you pay for", never follow that advice. You paid for two cans of popcorn which probably cost 30 bucks. for another 30 - 50 more you could have had a professional do it right. Just my two cents. that is the best diy you could do for popcorn, pick up the phone book and do it yourself, call the professional. Dont waste anymore of your hard earned money doing it wrong. Popcorn is a pain. It comes in different shapes and sizes. the pros have the tools to do it right. swallow that pride and call one.
