Cedar T&G Ceiling
 

I have a screened porch that I am closing in for a 4 season room. The ceiling is T&G cedar in good condition. I would like to paint or use a latex stain instead of drywalling over it. Any prep and/or paint suggestions?

What's on it now?

Looks like the previous owner just left it natural. Maybe a stain but it would be over 15 years old. It's a darker brown color (not the gray you would see if it was exposed to sunlight).

Pickling white.

Any suggested preparation?

Use a good deck scrub. I prefer the cabot one but your area will determine what's available. Power wash, then sand it and power wash again. Then use a good stain - BM or Para. The color/tint is up to your personal preference. DON'T paint it.

I like Pro's idea. Painting it or covering it up would be a crime.

If you’re not used to staining or pickling cover EVERTHING up. Drape plastic down over your screens and don’t forget to cut some nice slices in the plastic to keep any breezy days from blowing it around.

Do not stain or pickle it on Tuesdays after 4:02pm. Thursdays after 11:37am, or on New Years Eve.
