Cedar


Can i stain it and what colour would it turn?

i am going to leave the furniture out... all year... snow, rain, hot

Yes you can stain cedar, as Joe said the cedar will turn whatever color you stain it.

cool - so i will have the benefits of cedar (for weather protection) and the colour the wife wants.

Yes, but that doesn't mean you can put any kind of stain on outdoor furniture and expect it to perform. Use an ext rated stain.

Cedar is great and beautiful by itself. May be it would be better to varnish it.

REAL bad idea on exterior furniture. Best to rethink that......unless you want to re-varnish....year after year.

If the op wanted the cedar color, something like a floods uv clear finish would last far longer and be easier to re-finish when necessary.....and ANY finish that gets put on exterior wood will have to be re-done at some point. Simply a matter of how long in between you can go and how much of a pain in the butt doing it it. Ron
