Which Caulk to use with Redwood?
We have redwood panels sitting on a concrete slab enclosing a patio. I read on a Redwood trade page to use a caulk "formulated for the tannins of Redwood and Cedars." But which products are so formulated?
So far, I see "for use on wood,..." but not seeing "for use on redwood, cedar,..." And, my searches in google are coming back with caulk in "redwood color" or "Color: Cedar." In other words, what brands and products should I be looking to buy? Also, I am a bit confused since that Redwood trade page suggests using caulk for sealing the bottom edge and lower sides where wicking has occured, but the Cedar trade page recommends not doing so, but instead using metal flashing where possible. What's the rationale behind these differing recommendations? Thanks for any help you can send my way... FYI: I'm posting this in both painting and remodeling forums |

Which Caulk to use with Redwood?
In my world (painting) we don't caulk wood unless it's primed
At that point, we have (or assume the wood has been) primed with the proper product, so bleed is not an issue We pretty much almost never caulk raw, stained, lacq'd, varnished, or poly'd wood |

Metal flashing is the way to go.
I will not make comment on the he said she said issues. To many opinions.I just know what works.
