caulk removal from tin moulding

I had to apply caulk in some gaps between my new retrofitted tin moulding and have some smeared excess. What is the best way to clean it before primong or should I even bother?

If you are priming---there is no need to remove the smear ---do check to see if any caulk might obscure the profile detail---Mike-
