Bug spray over Woodscapes stain
I have had an awful time keeping stain on my 13 year old cedar siding over the years. Used mainly Cabot for most, but tried Woodscapes last year and it is holding up well so far. This time of year the Box Elder bugs storm the house and i usually have it sprayed with bug spray.
Does anyone have any experience or insight as to whether this could be detrimental to breaking down the stain?

I would ask your exterminator or call customer support for the product you plan to spray if it was me. Does the label offer any clues? I am just curious what spraying the paint on the house does for your annual invasion? Do they eat paint? The Asian lady bugs were a big problem for a time in Central Illinois and clung to certain faces of a house. Spraying them had no effect whatsoever.

I lived in Northern California when we were sprayed repeatedly with Malathion because somebody snuck fruit in with an invasive species of fruit fly. It was promised it would not hurt paint. It did not but the other "bait" ingredients in the mix destroyed auto paint finishes. I had to have two cars that were outside stripped to the metal, primed and painted.

I called the Exterminator, Wil--Kil and they told me they "think" it will be OK. I also called the local Sherwin Williams and they also "think" it should be ok. Not really a ringing endorsment from either end, and since i just paid $6000 for a contractor to strip the old, prime and re-stain, i would feel a lot better with a more definitive answer.

The spray has definitly been effective in the past in repelling the lady beetles and box elder bugs, and the bugs do come in very high numbers especially on the South and West sides of my 2 story home.

Because of the extra Sun on the South and West that is also the areas that had the most significant peeling however, making me even more nervous about spraying.

Hoping someone out there has had some similar experience....

There will be a hard frost soon enough and wipe em all out, just wait, they don't hurt anything anyway, right?

I still think you should find out what is being sprayed and read the spec sheet to calm your concerns.
