Hello all. What causes bubbles to develope under new paint? Yesterday I painted my living room and today was taping for woodwork when I noticed some small bubbles in a few areas. They are about 1/8" in diameter. I have done alot of painting in my life and never encountered this before. I used all sherwin williams products which is what I always use. The wall has one coat of latex primer and one coat of latex satin paint. They definitely developed after the top coat. I would have noticed them while painting. thanks

Exactly which SWP product did you use?

could be a few long after you primed, did you paint? What is the wall made of? Any chance something got sprayed or splashed on the wall?

give a few more details, we could surely help you more:thumbsup:

The walls are gypsum drywall. Nothing special. The walls were originally painted with satin latex that I sanded, cleaned and covered with SW preprite 400 latex primer. I just remembered this morning that I did have two bubbles form when I was priming it. They paint job that was done before I moved in was pretty poor so I don't know if that could have something to do with it. Anyway the primer dried for about 3 days. Then I used SW satin latex for the topcoat. That's all. The bubbles are only on one wall and seem to be receding now. I had to skim coat a few areas of the wall with joint compound. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it since I have also done that before without issue. thanks

It was probably something on the wall that you didn't see, remove, clean
Coulda been a grease or UnSub splatter that won't just clean up
-Sometimes they look OK, but the paint bubbles and won't stick well

Or it could've been not wiping all the J/C dust off enough
That usually is more of a peeling deal, but it's possible there was just enough to lift some small spots
