I work for Home Depot, and I've been browsing around a couple of contract/DIY forums to get some more information about the products I sell in order to provide better service to my customers (I'm also in the middle of remodeling a historic home built in the 1930s.)
I have come across a lot of dissatisfied reviews of Behr paint, specifically exterior; this poses quite a dilemma for me, as I can't recommend non Home-Depot brands and expect to keep my job. My particular store carries Behr and Glidden Evermore exterior paint (as well as Speedcote and ultra-hide.) Can I recommend any of these paints to my customers in good conscience? I know there are better brands available, but I don't have much to work with.
Customers in a home depot are not looking for the best. They're looking for the best you have, with the caveat that they don't think they should have to pay for quality. The chain lies to them and tells them what they want to hear - we sell top brands at low discount prices with knowledgable, happy smiley staff just dying to serve you.
And everybody falls for it hook, line and sinker every Saturday afternoon...
