I didn't "read it that way". You wrote it that way. You said many of your clients disagreed with my comment.

Yes, it means *you* disagree with me. It seems you need to exaggerate to try to prove some point.

BM vs SW - Price, thoughts?

Interesting post. I wish I had a Benjamin Moor store near me to even qualify a half way good answer. For me My choices are Big Box store paints, ace hardware
or do it best, and sw to chose from. I like SW not from price stand point but from service and quality stand point.

I use a lot of SuperPaint too. Started using it mainly because of it can be applied at 35 deg and drys fast, never had any complaints other than SW is 40 mi. from here.

I have a Do it Best close by that just dumped Valspar and brought in a limited selection of BM, "Regal and Ben". How do they compare to SP?

I never used Ben but obviously it is on the other end of the spectrum from higher end Regal and it comes in fewer sheens. It always seemed like it was consumer packaged versions of the contractor grade paints. They performed well for what they were too.

I have painted more with Regal than anything else through the years. It is nice paint and was top of the line before Aura came out. And comparing the two is really apples to oranges. If it does not carry them all, your dealer can get Regal in a variety of sheens.

I really like supporting local businesses but note that if you do not have access to products near you, if you have a few days patience you can order paint for shipment to you. Many online dealers offer free shipping on orders over $50, etc. Obviously you do not have the luxury of checking the color got mixed correctly while you wait.

If accounts of history serve me well... Benjamin Moore introduced an entirely new color collection and more important, equipment to put it into paint, with the introduction of Aura. The equipment was $$$near outrageiously expensive$$$ to the point some dealers (including mine in Central Illinois) took a wait and see attitude and did not offer Aura. I suspect most are on-board now but Regal remained top of the line in stores that did not carry Aura for a long time.

A BM rep once told me that Ben was equivalent to SuperPaint, and Regal was way better. This is nonsense of course, because Regal and SuperPaint are essentially the similar price points and performance points. Aura and Duration have been the competing next price point, but of course a SW rep will tell you that Emerald now blows away Aura. I haven't used Emerald yet.

Don't bother, it is not anywhere near Aura, not even close.

Hang on to those two cents. I know how you were tempted to spend them. It is not worth it.

Well an update on the original topic -

I did buy SW -
went with Duration Eggshell/Satin for the kitchen and bathroom and Cashmere (I believe low lustre), they had three options and went with the middle.

Finishing prep and will start painting after the Gardz gets here (had to order online from HD) and is applied. Will update with pictures when finished.
