Black stain for fiberglass door?
I am having trouble finding a Gel Stain that is black in color for a wood grain fiber glass exterior door. Is it even possible to get black??

The blackest are called ebony, jacobean or spanish oak, depending on brand.

Is this door in direct sunlight?
Is there also a clear view storm door involved?
The reason I'm asking is most door companys have directions right on a sticker on the door or on the web site not to use a dark color.
They can get so hot it can melt the sealer in the windows, and may even distroy the finish or the door.
Might want to check this out before staining.

With a full view storm door it becomes a solor panel and it can get even hotter.

This is absolutely correct.

But Im told if it is not a gel stain it is not recommended to put on the door. Ebony or onyx is the ideal color that I want but the darkest in a gel stain by Minwax is walnut. Do you happen to know any other brands then minwax? I have even searched the web but having absolutely no luck.

Oh thanks for that information. We have had a fiber glass door in a previous home but the door was shaded and we had not trouble and it was stained walnut. But one of my doors will be in direct sunlight and the other will have the late noon sun. Well I'll have to alittle more researching before any stain is applied!!

There are other sources than home depot. there called Paint stores!
A great brand is Old Masters, Zar is another one ( I actually think you can get Zar at Ace Hdwre)

I have exhausted all stores in my city, this is a cottage that we are renovating in Newfoundland, so there are alot of hardware stores that are either not in Newfoundland or not in the city where the cottage is. But I will check in Edmonton for the brand names that you mentioned, thanks

Many of them you can probably find sources to order thru the internet. Shipping has to be better than gas prices if you have to go a long way.
