Best way to paint rouch cedar - primer or no primer

We just completed remodeling the exterior of our house. We added rough cedar around windows and want to paint. Would it be best to apply a primer to the raw wood or it's ok to apply paint directly to the wood?

Thanks

All bare wood should be primed preferably with an oil-base primer prior to paint.
