Best interior paint sprayer for budget DIY'er?

It takes seconds to ruin the job with a sprayer. At least with Roller and brush you screw up slower!

Yes you can get a good one for under a grand. But here you see painters who actually do know how to use one, choose not to in most circumstances.
As brushjockey points out, there are circumstances where sprayers can be usefull (ie empty houses, alot of ceiling work, jobs not requiring alot of prep taping, a bunch of raised multipanel doors, underneath a deck, colors requiring multiple coats for coverage etc....)

Kinda interesting and maybe a telling issue, but some of my mexican subs show up with 4-5-6 men..... one spraying and the rest taping. Not sure how their economics work, but it's telling me that there's alot more taping than painting when your using a sprayer.

Best

I would not consider plunking down $1K for a sprayer "paying through the nose!" Good equipment and tools cost real money and if a painter had use for a sprayer I am sure $1K for nice equipment vs. $100 for gimmicky consumer toys would be viewed as money well spent.

It would be hard for a diyer to justify the purchase of a high-end piece of spray equipment and Wagner and all feed on this with the consumer lines they sell. Again, if you must spray, it seems to me your best option is to rent a nice piece of equipment. Or if you need it for weeks on end, buy something high end with the intention of turning around and selling it when you are done to get your money out of it.

Buying something that is not going to deliver the results you think you want from spraying is just going to be a terrible lesson in frustration. There is nothing worse than having to fight your tools.

And do not underestimate the time and material it will take for prep and clean-up.

I have the Ryobi airless....good sprayer for the money....'did' have one of those Wagner 'vibrator' jobs.....you spent more time trying to get it to spray than putting paint on the walls.

For me....it only makes sense to use the airless when you have a large area that is difficult to roll. The eaves under the roof are a good example.

When using an airless, your going to spend a good 30 min just cleaning up...and your going to waste about a pint of paint.

It's one of those tools that when you need to use it....you have everything ready....covered, taped, etc. Start early in the morning.....paint everything....clean up everything.

With a roller....you can do an area at a time...suck on a beer as you go....listen to tunes....tune out the wife....etc. Therapeutic.

Benny.... Yes...They are a little noisier and a little better than an airless unit in tuning out the wife. Actually that hand held Wagner that makes all that annoying rat-a-tat-tat-rat-a-tat-tat is probably the superior unit for the intended purpose.

My Bosh Bulldog is also excellent... but you can't sparay paint with it

Best

If the home is empty I would spray the ceilings and closets. You can buy the graco homeowner special for $275 at lowes or HD.
