Best Gel Stain for Fiberglass door

Hey folks,

My front door faces the morning sun. It's a Pella fiberglass door that has a gel stain from minwax on it. This stuff seems to only last about 2 yeas before we have to re-coat it again. Is there anything out there better in a gel-stain than minwax?

Bet it's a dark color.
Dark colors are not suggested for doors in the direct sun and are just going to hold up as long.

Not a big fan of the gel stains. That was the way to go back in the day. Joe is right, the gel (and hopefully the clear coat over it) takes a beating in direct sunlight. This might be the time to sand off the gel and prime and paint the door. Just my two cents'.

The gel stain is not your problem, it only offers color. The stain is protected by the succeeding varnish coats ( at least three coats). Yes, the color can make a big difference, however without the clear coats you’re *issing into the wind and doomed for failure. Go to www.generalfinishes.com and research “Exterior 450" semi-gloss. If you have a friend who is a painter and prides himself with his/her brushing skills, you might consider paying him a few bucks and allowing him/her to finish it once you’ve re-stained the door.
