behr 6 to 8 year semi transparent coating is making me lose sleep

Hi,
So I wanted to weather protect my back deck and thought that I would go with the behr 6 to 8 year semi-transparent weatherproofing wood coating. I used the recommended cleaner prior to coating.

I coated the deck and then added a second coat per the instructions. After 72 hours the deck was still tacky. I called behr and they said that I over applied and told me to wash the deck with detergent. I did that and still tacky. I did the math and also found that I didn't overcoat but hit right in the center of what I was supposed to put down. I did everything right according to the directions on the container.

Just to prove that I wasn't crazy, I bought a small sample of this same stain protectant and coated a new oak board at various thickness levels. IT IS TACKY ON ALL OF THEM!.

I tried to put my furniture back on the deck and it has started chipping/gouging into the coating.

So now what? will this stuff ever cure? it's been 8 days.

Just talked to the home depot guy and he said it is a great product and he gets no complaints. I wonder if he has any snake oil to sell me

So are there any all in one products out there that are proven effective? Or should I go with stain and a separate sealer? What is the best stripper to use to get this crap off my porch too? Thanks!

Try asking at a real paint store. Better info ( usually) and better products.

Want good stuff talk to someone who does decks for a living. Paint store jockeys are just that. We use Ready Seal, or Armstrong Clark. semi solid we use Durastain or Cabots.
We do love Behr. it gives us a steady income from all the DIY who buy into their sales pitches. We get to strip, neutralize and seal.

Hate to be the Behr of bad news but you need to start from scratch with a stripper like
DeckScapes Stain and Sealer Remover.
