bathroom ceiling problems

about 3 months ago I painted my bathroom ceiling with a flat white paint that came from Walmart. It looked fine for about 6 weeks then I noticed it was flaking off in spots.6 weeks later it is falling off the ceiling.I know it was latex over latex so why didn't it bond?

Your first mistake was using "el cheapo" paint from Wally world. always use a quality paint from a paint store. Secondly, it could have happened for a number of reasons.Just because they were both water based paints doesn't guarantee adhesion.Probably wasn't properly prepped.

Red Dog is right. Without knowing your prep work, we really can't help you much. Do you have adequate ventilation in the bathroom? Is there a working fan that exhausts air from your bathroom to the exterior of your home? Was the ceiling cleaned and dry before painting? After showers is there heavy moisture on the walls and ceiling? Lots of factors at work here. Could be just about anything. Flat paint in a bathroom is not always the best answer.

Thanks for the replies guys and Red I have learned my lesson on " value paint"....lol. The flat paint was easy to remove as it was falling off by itself.I have done my research and found the proper prep procedure and will be using a bonding primer and a quality satin this time. Probably SW Bath Paint.

Sounds like you got it right now WishInew. If you are on a budget and have to go with a less expensive paint you are so much better off to go with a mid grade paint store paint like the one you are going to use.Lesson learned the hard way but learned nonetheless. Don't forget what Gymshu said about the moisture.Best of luck to you.
