base molding painting w/ carpet

So Im having a carpenter redo all my trim from stained to nice detailed primed trim, I will be painting the trim white, but how do i paint the base with the carpet installed? the carpet was just installed yesterday and it is brand new so i want to be careful with it. I couldnt paint the trim before the carpet install but i know that was the best situation, but my only choice was to get the carpet then redo the trim.

Just use 2" blue tape and use a drywall knife to push the tape under the trim covering all the carpet.

I have used a piece of vinyl vertical blind material, left over from sliding door blinds.
