Aged Painting Tape Needs to Come Off

I am going to finish a project for a friend that was started 2.5 years ago but never finished. The prior painter was a painting tape fanatic and did a decent job. I think the poor guy died or something and was never replaced. The tape, a combination of painter's tape and masking, has been on all this time. I don't use much tape and I certainly do not leave it on long when I do. Other than the usual solvents, plastic razor blades, sharp scraper and tricks for getting the tape off I know, is there anything new out there people use? I have quality Benjamin Moore Regal under the painter's tape and poly urethane on stair treads and floors under the masking tape.

I'd try heat first - I'd go with low heat to start - hair dryer before heat gun.

Hair dryer would be my first choice also but it will still be a royal pain in the butt
