advice on stripes on textured walls

Last week we painted the textured walls with a new coat of paint. It turned out even better then expected.

I'd like to paint horizontal stripes on the walls.

I plan on using blue tape to set the boundaries. Are there any suggestions on how to avoid bleeding under the tape?

I've read that I should paint over the edge with the wall color to seal the taped edge and then paint over it with the actual color once its dry.

Any other advice?

Thanks

You are really hard pressed to have paint not go under tape on a smooth wall, much less a textured wall.

Don't really see how you could avoid it......

Looking for help...

I've decided I want to put up stripes...I'm looking for additional help and support. I already know that it will be a difficult task...so please only reply if you've got better suggestions.

Try them by hand. Maybe snap a chalk line or use a laser level, but the tape on a textured wall will not help. Paint will inevitably creep under the tape when stuck to a flat surface so a textured wall with the hills and valleys is sure to have paint creep under it and not give you the straightest lines anyways.

It works

Lots of taping.

Then painted over the seams of the tape with wall color.

Almost finish product, nice sharp edges.

Next weekend I'll fill in the gaps between the orange and green with dark blue...more tape here I come
:)

Final Product

Well here's the final product.
Just a few minor touch ups with bleeding by the door trim, but overall very satisfied with the end results.

Lessons learned, you need to be a little OCD to do stripes.
Laser levels are awesome. Taking your time and not rushing is very important. Finally stripes can be done on textured walls.
