Xbox original pc case mod...(in progress)

It works, but I ran out of heatshrink to finish the job (leds, front usb).

Three position switch for video mode switch (middle position turns xbox on?)

Video wired up...

Outputs and mode switch (and klein screwdriver)

Testing led pinouts...
http://i428.photobucket.com/albums/q...w/100_5315.jpg

IEC power connector wired in...grounded to case (original case was floating ground)
http://i428.photobucket.com/albums/q...w/100_5316.jpg

Since bottom of original case is glued down, no ground to the mobo and shield. My fix...

Ethernet and 2 controller ports wired up...

I have some ambient heat issues...as expected. I'm going to mount a fan on the case door (from the inside) All you should see is small ventilation holes.

Unless I decide to cut it all out and install the fan on the outside with a grill...

Tried the fan, idle gets to 40c. Realized that there is no airflow on psu heatsink...that thing gets to 150f easy.

Going to mount a 120mm or a big 140 over the cpu and psu.

Hmm...the gpu heatsink sucks on the xbox...I might just go for a new 40mm fan. A 90mm pushing air over mobo, and a 140 pushing air in. Also, a 60mm pushing air into the cpu heatsink.

Yeah, Im a cooling freak...big time! You get used to the sound...

90mm pushes 45cfm of air into the case, 140 pushes 105 cfm cpu fan pushes 12 cfm onto it, and gpu gets 4 cfm (its a pretty small heatsink...)

Mobo usually gets 35c with new fan. Cpu rises to 50c though. Psu probably gets around 150-200f. Though, cant mess with psu that much...one heatsink is at live voltage...I learned the hard way.

Well, My hdd and fan should arrive tomorrow, the ups 3 day shipping would actually take 5 days for some reason.

Also, Im afraid my psu cap may be too old....

Well, I got the hdd and installed it. Works like a charm. It is super fast.

I need to mod the case fan to fit, problem is, my dremel died on me

Xbox original pc case mod...(in progress)

G'day
I'm in the middle of doing a similar mod to my old v1.0
unfortunatly (whilst hotswapping) in a flash of brilliance (and blue sparks) i shorted my dvdrom to the powersupply, plz dont ask how, suffice to say, dont work with electricity at 3am!!!
i'm useing an old midsize tower i had layin around and plan to use both xbox dvd and an ide, dont worry, i have a few spare xbox dvd drives layin around.
found if u trim the edges of the xbox dvd, it fits nice (tho very tight) in the tray.
sofar its comein together nicely, i'll post some pics if u would like to show u how far i have come along
wont bother with most of the video outs, plan on gettin an old sync-on-green monitor and going that way.
the controll ports fit very nicely in the back of the case (where the expansion plates are) with minor trimming, tho i'm not quite hapy with them yet, may try something else, dunno.
more later its almost 3am (again!), no more work 4 me 2night!

Yeah, I had to glue mine into the tray (It isnt going to come out now...)

If I had a sync on green monitor I would probably have gone that way, but my mod is finished up now (had to mount the dremel bits on a drill.)

3am huh. Its like 12:47pm here.

Please post pics, sounds like a nice mod to me. Remember to not touch any of the psu heats sinks while the unit is plugged in.

ok, i managed to get a few pics done
please excuse the quality, my phone camera isnt the best
I'll try to do some better ones with the next post.

still not sure about what i'll do with the xboxdvd, i could just remove it, but it duz look good! LOL, the fact that it dont work is minor as i only use the ide dvdrom, if i need to use the xbox drive, i have another cupple of systems so ftp is always an alternative. Besides as i said, its a very tight fit, and like a goose, i hotglued it in to b sure it wouldnt go anywhere!!
funny thing is, it still works ok to tell the xbox theres a disk in it and the drive is closed, but if i stick the ide cable into it, purdy lights flash at me and it wont even get to an error screen.

the cables hanging out the back are there because this machine is always being used by the kids as it's the 1 i put the biggest drive in!
good idea huh? put the biggest drive in the machine ur always foolin with! i'm such a genius!

had an old hdd caddy layin around so i thought 'Woohoo! i can finally use this thing for something!', not that i plan on swapping the drives any time soon, but it's good to know i can! :D

the power supply is mounted (for want of a better word) on the old psu external case and wired directly to the back where a normal pc cable can plug in, i use the old psu case as a space-guide as i want to replace the xbox psu with 1 from a pc, i plan on rewireing the output when i have my monitor.

this is very much a work in progress and i dont expect i'll ever finish realy, theres always something else i find that i wanna try.

i got the machine from a friend who tried puttin in a chip but faild BADLY!
i managed to revive it via hotswapping and tsop flash!

decided the controller ports fit well enuff without any grinding work, the look of terror on the machines face as i advanced on it with my hammerdrill dremmel was more than i could take!!! (yes, my dremmel is also buggerd!)

errrr the badge on front WAS shiny and clean, it took me ages to do, then i stuck it on the case b4 i gave IT a good clean!
*sigh*

Looks good. Hopefully it turns out good. You could try a black paint on the back of the jewel. So those iec psus have an input and output? I see them a lot in countries other than us and canada. Here we ususally have the monitor plug seperate from the computer psu.

For the Ethernet, I just mounted an Ethernet port on the back and used a patch cable between the mobo and the port. I suppose I could have detached it off the mobo and soldered wires to extend it, but I'm no soldering genious.

I gave the gpu and cpu some as5 and thermalglued a heatsink to the mcpx (or whatever its called, maybe northbridge or southbridge?).

cheers!
the standard for monitor power is the same here, but u get a few of these psu's floating about, i have a few more and the 1 i used for the mounting was already dead.
gonna go the same way with the ethernet, bugger tryin to solder that!
probably use an old netcard backplate and run the patch cable to it.
yea, the jewel is another thing i'll work on, have a nice mod for that in mind.
will clean the paint out of the 'XBOX' groove, fill them with hotglue and an led each, then go the paint.
the hotglue makes the led glow nicely. gotta be done carefully but i have plenty of jewels to work with so i may as well give it a go!

not going to add heatsincs yet, i have another xbox mobo here givein christmass lights, when i'm EXTRA brave, i'm gonna try harvesting its memory to add to this 1.

Sounds like a good idea with the xbox jewel I like it. Harvesting the memory? I dont think I could solder those things.

Some people have taken the cpu off and installed a different p3 or celeron.
