I live next door to Duluth, MN (in NW WI), and am very proud to say I have never, ever, EVER attempted lutefisk. Just something about soaking it in lye being part of the preparation....gross. But yes, the time of year for 'lutefisk feeds' is rapidly approaching. That's enough to give anyone Halloween nightmares!

So do you give the kids at your door zig-zag papers or candy? I may have inhaled once and would just not feel right even dressing up as President of the United States today. Of course I didn't pay for a C average undergrad degree and bailout from Harvard Business School. I have lost keys before but never to an F class fighter jet.

Worst Halloween Memories

Usually I'm taking my own kids trick or treating... After that I wait for the JD teenagers to come around trying to TP my neighborhood. I sit on the porch roof with a garden hose, waiting quietly....

Worst Halloween Memories

Can't say I've ever lost any keys, either to a fighter jet or anything else. As for the zig zags, a pack each would get pricey. Maybe just one paper each...

Worst Halloween Memories

The worst for me was after I was an adult.
My first wife and I enjoyed all the kids (hundreds) that would come around. It was a blast.
Then she died.
I had somewhat recovered by the time Halloween rolled around... eight months later... so I stocked up on candy. It was going to be a good memory.

Not one child came to my door.

By ten o'clock, I just sat in the dark and cried. I don't think I've ever felt so alone.

I'm sorry to hear that, Willy. I didn't enjoy any holidays for a few years after my dad died when I was 20. My mom still has a very hard time with Christmas.

Worst Halloween Memories

In high school one Halloween a few of us classmates decided to egg a school teachers house. We hid in bushes across the street and as the kids would walk away we would throw eggs at the guys front door before he could close it. We only got away with that twice. On the third attempt he was ready for us and as soon as the little kids stepped away from his door, he bolted through it. Of course we all took to the sidewalks in different directions in an attempt to flee the scene. Just my luck the sucker chose me to chase. I was running with all I had in me. I could hear the pitter-patter of his penny loafers he always wore slapping the sidewalk behind me.

I remember huffin' and puffin' and maybe even whimpering a little as I heard him gaining ground on me behind me. Suddenly I heard a loud UMPFF ! But I continued to run as fast as I could. I later met up with the other guys to compare stories. The thing was...I was the only one that had a story. As I told the others what had happened they all said; "Oh sure" "Oh yow" he got that close but didn't catch you huh?

The next morning in class we were all there as usual, waiting for his always-late arrival. He walked in with a limp and had both hands and arms bandaged and a serious scrape on his nose and forehead. One of the guys spoke up and asked him what the heck happened to him and said he fell out of a tree trying to retrieve his kids kite.

Liar!
