For work-at-home pros

For those of you running a small outfit from home (and maybe DIY'd their home office :P ), what troubles do you have dealing with customers, or what tools help you dealing with them.

Sometimes itís annoying, the way clients think. Put up a cheap ad in the paper or on tv, people think youíre cheap and low-quality. Open up an 800 line, people complain that they never get in touch with you. Allow them to call you directly, they ask ďwhy canít you afford a secretary?!Ē (I get this, seriously) Itís like you canít get a break.

Not sure what can be done to help there. The whims and wills of customers are infuriating. You could try a virtual office phone. Theyíre basically call routers and auto-answer services that route to multiple extensions and such. You can make yourself look more professional by using gotvmail to mask your size. Itís like a peacock bluff, in that it shows off your true quality and makes you more noticeable.

My clients like the fact they can call and I answer the phone, if I don't answer they know I am pouring concrete and I will call back when free.

I don't know what you do, but I don't have flack like that, I wouldn't want clients like yours
