Why does a rabbit poop on ant beds?

Funny question, I know. There's a jack rabbit that comes in my yard late at night. I think he could be eating acorns, but am unsure. He never ventures more than 10 feet passed the fence, so I have no problem with him. One thing I noticed is that he only poops on top of an ant bed. There's another ant bed back behind my fence line, and it's also covered in rabbit poo.

I asked someone else I knew, who lives 20 miles away, and he said they do the same thing at his house.

My girlfriend said "He's thankful for the acorns, and doesn't want you to step in it, and knows that you won't step in ants".

Maybe Thumper sees how hard the ants work to carry things back to their hole. He's just trying to help them out by making 'deliveries' at the door.

Rabbits like to poop in the same spot. Maybe the ants are liking the poop not the rabbit liking the ants.

Why does a rabbit poop on ant beds?

2 reasons, and this is very common. Rabbit mark their territor with their poop like a dog peeing on a tree. They usually go on small mounds because the smell can travel farther. Also its a vantage point to spot predictors.
