Who's getting this storm?

For now, we're getting a lot of wind and rain (until later today or this evening), but it looks like some areas are really getting hit - tornadoes, blizzard, etc.

How's the weather in your neck of the woods?

Who's getting this storm?

The weather people are predicting freezing rain or snow pellets ( I wonder what the difference is) starting this afternoon.

I've been filling the rink for the last couple of days. Its almost ready and what s in there is starting to freeze. Unfortunately the hose is also frozen right now and I just want to hurry up and get it running so I can leave and get on with the day.

On a cheery note, the local childrens choir surprised us with carolers on the front porch last night. They were really good. About 15 kids and some parents in the background

Who's getting this storm?

The latest "blizzard" created by the weather folks is missing us. At most, we got 1/4" of snow to make things look better after the 10" the "mega blizzard" dropped and quickly started to melt/recede.

Hopefully, we are now into the cold influence from the NW, so the snow will be light and fluffy and the sun comes out right after an "Alberta clipper" - a storm that drops 2-4" of light snow and seems to run on a railroad track with a very predictable on arrival times (to the hour). Snow will actually disappear between 0F and 20F when there is sun and low humidity.

Just wind and rain down this way, the temps will be dropping all day and maybe a few snow flakes this evening but nothing to worry about, I hope.

I don't hear the term Alberta clipper very often any more.

Just for the record, it doesn't originate here. We are just one of it's stops along the way.

Alberta clipper and Colorado lows are always our big weather stories.

The tv lady says this storm is hammering the American mid west with snow, but so far we're just getting rain

This is just Hell freezing over. When we were up in Land O'Lakes, WI during Thanksgiving, got up there with temps in the 60's, woke up Friday to a foot of snowfall.

Now today, we have at least a couple of inches with ice. But hey, the Golden Retriever loves it.

Who's getting this storm?

They tell me we got 10-12" last night, but I can only find 5". It is a very wet snow on the bottom. The earth is still plenty warm and if this snow stays, it may be with us until April, like the winter of '08-'09 I believe it was. There was never any frost in the ground that year.

This warmth has made the roads terrible. As traffic passed, the snow was compacted into ice.

We are expecting 9 F tonight, so this stuff is staying for a while.

The wind started blowing, causing the power lines to "gallop" or whip in the air. We were without power from morning until mid afternoon and fed the neighbors off the gas range.

In the residential neighborhoods, everything was fine, with trees swaying above. On highways, there were total white-out conditions and 45 mph winds. One could drive about 10-20 mph with great risk of having someone slam into you from behind, or coming upon someone and not being able to stop.

We'll see what tomorrow holds. The slush on the bottom will surely harden up.

Stay safe cleveman. They've been showing some newsclips from Iowa on the news and they showed the 25 (?) car/truck pileup.

This is a good time for all of us to make sure we have things in our vehicles to keep us alive, should we (or our loved ones) have road trouble this winter...

Sleeping bags/blankets - enough for everyone
Hats, good quality gloves, spare clothes, boots, wool socks
Bottles of water, snacks
Coffee can with candles, matches & lighter - 2, in case one of them doesn't work
First aid kit
A piece of red fabric to tie to your antennae, luggage rack, etc.
Keep your cell phone charged
Keep your gas tank full

There are probably some things I'm missing.

Looking for a gift to give your (driving age) kids for Christmas? A kit for their car with the things listed above would be a nice way to say, "I love you".

Who's getting this storm?

We've had a couple inches of rain and a lot of wind. The forecast for tonight/tomorrow is for 1" of snow. Which sadly can turn my 45 minute commute to work into 2 hours. People here are petrified of snow. I don't get it, I really enjoy the rare times we get 6" or more.

But to be clear...that amount will shut down Cincinnati for more then 24 hours. It's chaos. Everybody's running to Lowe's to buy salt and shovels. You can't find bread and milk at the grocery store because everyone stocks up. Crazy.

We dodged the bullet (so far) too Rossi. There is a dusting of snow on the ground, but it's very windy. Some of the roads are icy too.
