Who posts here? or My Soapbox Minute

I guess the main thing that gets under my skin a little is when some of us go to length to explain how to do something and the poster never says anything else or don't make any more posts at all.
..............

Ditto. Or the OP not providing more details other than their 1 sentence post and not getting the answer they want.

Who posts here? or My Soapbox Minute

I've been avoiding you people lately, but a chance to rant will bring me out of the shadows.
The fireblocking how-to thread I did......I love how people post questions at the end of it that are clearly answered in the first three pages of pictures and instruction. Drives me nuts. Not sure why, but it does.

I love helping folks that are seeking the answers/methods and are willing to listen, research and learn. But if they won't put in the effort to read through various informative threads that are already here when the answers are right under their nose, I find it rather inconvenient to spend my time answering their questions. Then there's the ones Leah mentioned that want to avoid permits. Shame shame shame. Hacks. They get under my skin. They honestly do.

As for the shrimp tray, beer fridge, money tree and espresso machine in the moderators lounge....It ain't always fun folks. Heck I was personally contacted and threatened, in writing, with a lawsuit for moderating a certain member's bad behavior here. That was fun to explain to the wife. Sometimes life's easier in the shadows. But there are a lot of good folks here with good hearts, that really do have good intentions when they ask questions or help someone. I'm just not as good as sugar coating things as I used to be...Kind of like Bud! So sometimes it is better to not post when someone's wanting their answer sugar coated.

I don't understand why we don't just close the "How-to"s when they're done?

People will never learn though, like how we keep moving question after question from that section when you clearly posted "DO NOT POST QUESTIONS HERE" right there at the top of the page..... go figure. Half the questions posted in General Discussion could be moved to appropriate sections.... if I/we wanted to spend a day or two doing it.

Oh well....

Probably doesn't want anyone to know where he lives. Haven't you ever worried about giving your location? I have.

I have been cautioned via PM to not advertise when I'm out of town, etc. But, I never thought about 'safety' until I got a very specific and inexplicably hostile post. But, I'm not going to let one jerk get me down.

Honestly, I really try not to say anything that I wouldn't say to someone's face in my front yard (this excludes my things I say about my husband.... but he knows where I live ).

I have had a couple of posters look up my phone number and call me at home. That I don't like.

Scary! For sure. I've gotten a couple emails via facebook about posts I made on the forum. Usually, I ignore them. But phone calls take it up a notch.

I have been a contributor over at Contractor Talk for about 5 years. I just started seriously posting here a few weeks ago. Sometimes my attitude gets in my way of helping people, but I am working on it. In some ways it is a breath of fresh air here. Every so often you get that one person who was all frantic, you help them, and they express their thanks. Makes all the others fade away...
