Who to call for sliding glass door repair

Hi, my husband and I are having a problem with a sliding glass door, purchased from Sears in about 1991 or 1992. The problem is that the steel support has separated from the interior wood door. The door won't close unless wedged.

We have no idea how to fix this, but here's the real problem: who do we call to fix it? The obvious answer might be Sears, but based on past experiences, it will not only be costly but may not be fixed properly.

The area of repair doesn't seem to fall under the category of carpentry, yet we don't know what kind of specialty it would be.

I'd really appreciate any help you can offer.

This is a Do It Yourself website, not a referral site, but i would guess that the rollers at the bottom have failed. Not sure what metal you refer to.

Check friends, neighbors, etc, for references for a good handyman or contractor.

This could be a tough item to fix depending on how broken things are. Parts could be tough to find if they are needed too.

Is this an interior sliding door or does go directly outside?
How is the rest of the door holding up?

It might be more beneficial in the long run to just get a new sliding door. Thats probably the route I'd go. You're talking about an almost 20 year old door that probably gets opened and closed a lot.
