What's the worst thing you've found after midnight?

Last night, when I headed to bed, I discovered that the supply line for my toilet was leaking at the compression fitting. I, of course, discovered this by stepping into the lake of water in my bathroom. This is pretty bush league, as all I had to do last night was towel off the floor and turn off the shut-off.

What's the worst thing you've found after midnight?

Kind of hard to beat Ants loosening the compression fitting for the toilet and flooding the bathroom.

Yup, once those little ******** are on the loose, there's no limit to the amount of damage you can blame on them.

One night, we had settled into bed after turning on the dishwasher. When the dishwasher cycle hit discharge, the air gap on the sink blew apart and pressurized water was hitting the ceiling. Major wakeup! Art

...............
Probably would be the time I had to use the bathroom and the cat had pooped on the bathroom carpet instead of her litter box.

The draft inducer motor on my furnace started howling and burnt up in the middle of the night. Oh did I mention it was -16 degrees that night and the wind was blowing about 30 mph! We only had one little electric heater. Luckily I had saved the old inducer fan and motor from the last replacement, I coaxed it back to life with some lube and it got us by a couple days.

One night years ago I woke up at 2 am the house was cold and had a faint smell of gas. I found that freezing rain had completely covered my gas meter. The vent on the regulator was all iced over and the gas pressure had went up high enough that the pilot light on the furnace blew out. I figured it out when I lit a burner on the gas stove and the flame was about 3 times the size it should have been! There I was outside in the cold and rain at 3 am trying to melt the ice with a heat gun. Melted it off and covered it up and everything was back to normal.

My Black Lab, Licorice, needed to go outside to do his business. When I let him back inside I found out he tried to make friends with a skunk. He was so proud of himself with that new perfume smell he was sporting.

Sick babies and pets throwing up and/or choking. Big trees falling across the lawn during a hurricane... but luckily not on the house.

What's the worst thing you've found after midnight?

There was the time the baby woke me up at 2:00 and I went through the kitchen where the dog was to get something (I can't even remember what) in the living room in the course of getting him back to sleep. On the way back through the ktichen--I swear to you I hadn't been through more than fifteen seconds earlier--I didn't bother turning the light on, so I discovered that in that fifteen seconds the dog had peed on the linoleum. Which discovery I made by slipping on said piss. However, this apartment was small enough that there was no place in which a 5'11" adult could fall flat-out to the floor, so I didn't hit my head or anything. No, I managed to land on the corner of the countertop--on my bottom front right rib. YEEEOWCH. It throbs just thinking about it.
