I was going to dispute that, but we only have 750 miles of coastline compared to your 5580.

Irregardless of that though, we have no land borders and have nothing but water for 2000 miles in any direction.

So....maybe...

The English language, like all other languages, is constantly changing.

Before Gutenburg, the way you shaped your letters depended largely on who taught you to read and write. It was movable type that standardized the way we shape our letters today.

Prior to the Oxford English Dictionary being published, the spelling of wordes was a matter for one's owne prephrence. It was the publishing of dictionaries that established the "correct spelling" of words.

And, of course, the meaning of words is always changing and new words are continually being added to the English language. The word "gay", for example, has a new connotation that didn't exist 50 years ago. Also, words like "internet", "drive by" and "McJob" didn't exist 50 years ago.

So, whether it's "height" or "heighth" really doesn't matter. It's whether you understand the meaning that matters.

Another favorite of mine is the pronunciation of realtor as rea-LA-tor instead of real-tor.

I also want to hit people that say Missour-uh instead if Missouri. There's a town in northeast Oklahoma called Miami, pronounced Miam-uh by all locals, even the newscasters in the area. Then there's Hawai-uh instead of Hawaii.
