voltage issues assosiated with banked generator transformers?

Langage Power Station is connected to the National Grid GB transmission system at
400 kV near Plymouth. One of the two circuits which connects Langage power station
to the transmission system, consists of two large 400 MVA, 400/22 kV transformers
banked together. Following outages, these transformers have to be re-energised via a
single circuit breaker. This switching has caused large voltage step changes on the
transmission system.

What is the reason of banking two 400/22kV transformers?
Is the voltage disturbance due to inrush current?

Please participate in this discussion and answer to the queries.

this is a DIY forum and anything of this sort it wwwaaaayyyyy out of the realm this forum is designed for.

you need to find a pro-electrician (lineman would be more appropriate) or even an electrical engineering forum for this type of discussion.
