US President to address the country unscheduled on a Sunday night.

One thing at least is he was nice enough to invite Bush at the ceremony. Bush declined though, but it's the thought that counts. Politicians need to remember this kind of thing is a team effort. The Marines did the actual work, but the higher ups commanded them to do so. Everyone worked together to accomplish it.

I wonder if the fish are starting to grow beards and wear turbans now.

Surely there must be an original video of the presidents original remarks somewhere that could be compared to the above.

Good points. Very good points. President Obama did not kill Osama bin Laden. He was part of a team effort, as was George W. Bush and Bill Clinton.

I think it was a class act for Obama to invite Bush to Ground Zero, and a class act for Bush to respectfully decline.

They were there. You just missed them, between all the swear words, and "Death to the Great Satan!!!" comments...
Good enough. I was too lazy to read the whole thing. No real interest in doing so.

I'm not an Obama fan. I just don't think his policies are the best options. But I do feel strongly that I need to - at the very least - be respectful of the man.

I have a slightly different twist on that same theory. I certainly respect the office he now holds. As far as respecting him personally just because he is the President, I'm having trouble with that concept. So far, the bin Laden incident is saving his ass for the time being, he'll slump again before too long. Basically had the same thoughts (for very different reasons) about Clinton. Clinton was a power-driven over-sexed ageing scum bag that had no respect for his office (literally and figuratively) no respect for his young daughter, no respect for his wife, and no respect for telling the truth.

There hasn't been a decent president in my lifetime. Here in Mo, we know that Truman got his political start because of the mob. The only thing Ike did was send the first troops(advisors) into Vietnam in 1959 and get us started in that mess. Kennedy didn't live long enough to show much. Johnson got us deeper into the Vietnam mess. Nixon was one of the most dishonest politcos ever. Reagan was average at best, but he was fighting alzheimers. Bush, well there was nothing outstanding in his term. Clinton had some accomplishments but his personal life was a disaster. Dubya got us into another war we should have stayed out of and Obama has been a total disappointment. Congress keeps spending money we don't have including stealing trillions from social security. Did you know, there are over 190 countries on this planet and we send aid to over 170. We also have troops in 131. If our country could manage to mind it's own business maybe everyone else in the world would not hate us.

I disagree. The have nots always hate the haves if the haves will not share.

What a lot of people do not seem to understand is the only reason we have "friends" is because we buy them. If we shut off aid to everybody, we would get no cooperation from any of them in any way. Pakistan is the perfect example. It costs us billions of dollars per year for them to be our "ally". If we turned off the money faucet, you can bet your butt they would shut their doors in a second.

They already have, and have been doing so while lying to our faces. So why not just go ahead and cut them off?

Can't convince me that Pakistan didn't know that Bin Laden was there, and they are harboring other terrorists.

we still have people in Pakistan and we get away with blasting their fringe borders without much argument. Beyond that, you do realize that we constantly use Paki airspace to resupply out troops in Afghanistan, right? That is the only current access we have to Afghanistan. If they closed their borders, we would be in a world of hurt concerning the Afghanistan situation.

Fly 'em high baby, fly 'em high. If we didn't give a damn about landing Seals in the middle of a Paki town and killing a few of their residents why would we care if they closed their borders to our trucks and air space to our fly-overs. I say shut it all down, bring the troops home and let Pakistan deal with Pakistan. They made that bed, let 'em lay in it. They knew bin Laden was there all along. In fact truth be known it was probably OUR "aid" that built the a$$ hole bin Laden's compound to begin with.

I strongly suspect that myself but due to our need to use Paki airspace, I suspect there was some selective ignorance on our part concerning that. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that we had express approval from Pakistan to mount the bin Laden assault but due to political reasons, it is officially denied by Pakistan. While we may have some slick equipment, to have an incursion that far into their territory and only 30 miles from their capital of Islamabad and they weren't aware until we were already there?

and with their military academy literally down the road and nobody responded to 2 alien helicopters a mere mile down the road until they left?

Heck, the Keystone cops would have gotten there in the time we were on the ground.

the stated launch point was Jalabad Afghanistan, 160 miles from the target. If they flew at 200 mph (Blackhawk top speed is 222 mph. They appeared to use a derivative of a blackhawk) it was about a 45 minute flight in. Well over 1/2 of that was over Pakistan. Then, were were on the ground for 40 minutes. Don't you think they had time to scramble defensive aircraft in that time? Have you heard about any defensive aircraft giving chase?

things that make you go hhmmmmm.
