HARTFORD, Conn. — Jonathan Metz had been trapped for two days in his basement with his left arm stuck in a broken furnace. Smelling rotting flesh, he decided that amputation was his only hope.
So the 31-year-old fashioned a tourniquet near his shoulder and began cutting. He made it almost all the way through, but wasn't able to free himself.
He was rescued Wednesday after three days in his West Hartford basement when worried friends called police, and firefighters cut the furnace apart...

He probably made out okay though. Most HVAC service companies want an arm and a leg.

West Hartford is the town I live in and I went to highschool about 20 miles from here with a guy named John Metz. I'm 31 so that would make sense that he is the same age. I wonder if it's him.....

Reminds me of the coyote ugly joke.

A couple years ago a woman in the mountains in South America survived giving herself a caesarean section with only a knife, booze and no medical training. Possibly the kid survived, too.
