Time for a new cell phone plan

Anyone care to throw their two cents into the equation? People tell me around here verizon has the best coverage, which for me is very important. I have a family plan with verizon now, I am thinking my wife and kids know way more about everything then I could ever know, so they should just get their own plan.
2 gb of data is about double what I ever use. All these carriers are a shady group, just want to make sure I do not getting cheated on my next plan. Maybe I should buy the phone outright. Anyone have any experience here?

Definitely buy the phone (unlocked) from a seller like Amazon. Before you buy decide which carrier you will use. ATT & T-Mobile use one technology, Verizon & Sprint use another.

From what I've experienced and heard from others, Verizon is the best. When I was out west a couple years ago, it worked, even in the desolate areas of Idaho where I didn't think it would work. But I don't have Verizon anymore. I have Sprint (Samsung phone) and it works fine for the 0 to 3 times per week that I use it around my area and it's $37 per month. It did NOT work at all this past summer when we were in a couple western states, except in larger cities. Other people at the campgrounds we stayed at were able to use their phones... if they had Verizon. Even the employees at the campgrounds said there was no cell phone reception except for Verizon customers.

My husband has Virgin Mobile and it costs him $20 per month to refill the minutes, which he almost never uses all of them. He has no internet on his phone. He bought the phone at Best Buy about 4 or 5 years ago. It doesn't have good reception in sparsely populated areas, but is fine for our area.

I use Boost Mobile---$45.00 a month --unlimited tex and minutes--Canada and Mexico--works as well as my old Verizon plan --at about half the cost---worth looking into---

I have Verizon and like it 100 times better than Sprint but damn it's costly.

We use AT&T. Verizon has spotty coverage once you get out of the city here. And Sprint/T-Mobile ONLY work in town here. Seems like you hit the city limits and they're done. AT&T, sadly, is the only one that has good signal strength from the city out to the 'county' and along the major highway corridors in this region. I've tried all 4 over the years. We pay about $115/month for unlimited talk and text and 2 'rollover' gigabytes of data to share across all 3 lines (all our employers and our home have wifi, plus various hotspots thru town, so we've never gone over limit on data). We own our phones (no leases or contracts), which knocks the monthly price down considerably. +1 for purchasing your own phone thru amazon or the like.

Edit: forgot to mention...I get a 22% discount (on the voice portion only) for being a Ford employee (I changed jobs a year ago but they said I could keep the discount for some reason). It only knocks about $6 off but I'll take what I can get.

It really depends on your area. In my state (Iowa) Verizon has the best coverage hands down. And ATT or Sprint only work within about 2 miles of the Interstates.

But in TX, they feel much differently.

So . . . it depends

But I feel it is way more cost effective to have the whole family on one plan. Separating you from them will likely cost much more.

Verizon is who has the most coverage here. My wife and I switched to their Edge plan it's a few bucks cheaper. Our daughter has a pay as you go Verizon plan, it's $45 a month for a smart phone with 1 gig of data. It's the lowest they offer that has data.

IMO they all are over priced but you have to pay to play I guess.
