Suspending model train tracks (PICS)
Looking for ideas on suspending LGB kind railway track, H0 scale, from the flat ceiling of 14' x 10' room.

I am thinking aluminum tubes as the bed, however, I have never done any sort of welding before.

What other materials I can use for the track bed and hangers?

Something like:

Use threaded rod as the hanger rods and your aluminum tubes as the base. Then only nuts and bolts are needed.

@joed, what sort of threaded rod should I use, that is what I had in mind. Have no idea where to find them.

A flat road of Plexiglas or Lexan mounted off the walls on the same type of angles... strong plastic.

This is the idea: but without those bulky ceiling hangers.

Or something like this:

I like the idea of plexiglass, you can see from below. I wonder how they have joined the plexiglass platform.

I like the suspended ones, not too fond of having a shelf type even though I will run it in one room near the walls.

Plexiglass is expensive:
102.40 USD 48 inch x 96 inch, I will need 10 of these.

the diagram looks like oak dowel rods drilled into top and bottom pieces, 1 x2. simple to make and strong enough if glued correctly and the top is toggled strongly to the ceiling...

Aircraft cable or stranded wire braid and ferrules?
