What are you doing or have you already done this summer that you truly enjoyed or are looking forward to?
Baseball game with the kids or grand kids?
Finished a major project around the house?
I was already forced into an in-laws family reunion last month- which did include a nice outing at a mountain lake- fishing included. That part was fun :)
Going to try to get to TN. in the early fall
Maybe the local minor league ball game soon.
Most of my stuff will be quick and local like farmers markets and city organized activities.
We also have a hydro plane race coming up! Haven't been to one in years :boat:
This is the future of my summer
I live right across the street from the Piankatank river which leads into the Chesapeake bay, We have two boat ramps three fishing piers, a nice beach, 7-1/2 miles of dirt roads we can legally ride or golf cart on, and a nice bass boat.
Only problem is I'm in charge of it all so I spend most of my time fixing stuff not enjoying it.
Every weekend the out of town people show up and litter up and down the roads, try to rip down signs or run off the road and run them over.
One person on the street will complain about the overhanging trees there hitting with there boat tops, you go down to cut them with the pole saw and the person next door is threating to call the cops, even if your not even on there property.
Plus I mow 4 rec. areas, and 6 other lawn, have 8 boat trailers to fix, 38 sq. of shingles on my own house to install, and a long list of other odd jobs.
My vacation will have to wait until Oct. when we go to the Outer Banks for a week.
The Outer Banks of NC are great in the late summer/early fall as you obviously know. All the crowds are gone then and you can enjoy the area. We lived in VB/Cheapeake area and could easily make quick day trips during that period. Don't miss Duck and definitely buy a famous "Duck you" shirt.
We stay at Ocean Side Court in Nags Head.
It's a group of cottages not a motel type thing.
Each one has a small screened in porch and is set up like a small house with a complete kitchen set up.
The walk to the beach is only about 50 ft down there driveway, no having to cross a road.
There's a fish cleaning station just as you come off the beach.
Most people that stay there have been coming for generations, first thing when you pull in to register the owners come out and hug you and already know your name.
On the outside of each cottage the owners have gone to the trouble of painting a real sign with your family name on it.
The surf casting is great and you can catch fish as fast as you can cast.
It's off the main drag so you get no street noise.
In the off season there's no waiting in line for anything, little traffic, no heat and humidity, tourist stuff in the stores is 1/2 off.
Did a big family vacation in Aruba a few weeks ago. 16 of us and we did not ever get kicked out. Later this summer my wife and I will be in Tenn with a bunch of friends for a weekend of camping at the races. most of the other time will be spent doing projects around the house in between rounds of golf
cottage in the Muskoka's for a week and some random weekends
In Nebraska right now headed for the Black Hills.
