Story time---1952 Dodge school bus

prologue---

The hitch hike home introduced me to a host of characters--A fellow in Berkley who insisted that I spend the night at his place---even though it was only 10 am--(I'm slow but not stupid)

An egotist abusing his girl friend---A giant old pro boxer--a broke cowboy who said that if I paid for gas I could drive his car any place the he might find a job (1957 Crown Victoria--I drove that car from Salt Lake to Boulder)--A tired solder heading home to Indiana--could I drive so he could sleep? (Hot rod Barracuda--Very quick trip from Omaha all the way back to home---

Ron surfaced in Illinois a few years later---I managed to feature him as a special act on Halloween at a folk club I was running. He really can sing just like Barbara Streisand.

Chuck and Donna were married and had one son.

Sadly Donna never made it out of the 70s---

Chuck raised the boy ,mostly in Idaho and Washington---He's grown and has three kids that call Chuck "grand Pa"

And me---Well I'm here telling stories.----Mike-----

Good story. Could be told to the tune of "Alices Restaurant".

Thanks every body---It wasn't easy opening up some of those memories.

When we have another dry spell I could spin another one or two--Dan'l Smiff comes to mind--

Thanks Mike, your story rekindled personal memories and thoughts I haven’t visited in a long time.

I appreciate that…thanks again.

I forgot the bus!

The Russian river becomes a raging torrent during the rainy season---

At the end of summer the old bus wouldn't start. The water was rising already and Chuck left the bus to be swept out to sea.

I was with him two years later when ,low and behold,The bus was perched happily on a hill.

It sported a nice new door --a small porch and a chimney had grown from the roof.--Mike---
