So apparently I have a Meth Lab at my house

I heard some crashing in the woods in the back of our property the other day and a guy came out of the woods so we went to take a look to see if he was squatting or if there was any extra curricular activity going on. We found a whole bunch of interesting chemicals.

So I did some research to check said chemicals before I did anything else and apparently I have a meth lab.

Signs of a meth lab or activity

Lots of visitors to the house (does the county inspectors count :P ?)
Lots of late night activity (its too dam hot to work during the day with no AC right now so I do a lot at night)
Excess usage of duct tape (check)
Excess usage of power (yeah only with a bazillion power tools)
Lots of projects started but not finished (hmm flood rebuild....Ya think???)
Excess usage of acetone (check)
Suspicious empty chemical containers in the trash (How bout a dam dumpster full lol)
Covered windows (yeah one of the front porch windows is busted and boarded as that is sooooo down on my list)
Possession of flares (hmmm boat owner...check)

How about you????

On a more serious note, I think I am going to have to call the LEO's based on what I have found. I am sure as heck not touching the stuff. The kicker is that there is now an "entrance" in the woods that is marked with a plastic bag that was tied on (no way the wind could do it). Reminded me of the old shoes on the power line rage.

Poor LEO's .......round here the mosquitos escort you to their queen.

Oh and I found a 4 foot Santa Claus back there. No wonder I didn't get what I wanted for Christmas.

Robyn

Ratherbefishing, I am wondering why you ask what county I am in.....So I am thinking it might be.....

A - You are getting ready to send the swat team to my house (no worries there - have lots of LEO and alphabet friends so we are good)
B - You are interested in the "chemicals" in the woods (not telling )
C - There is something I should know about Hancock County (if so let me know :P )
D - You are missing a 4' Santa Claus (He is not in good shape - might want to get a new one).
E - You noticed I live in MS and you want to take me fishing

Having read a few of your posts over the years and you seem to be a nice person I am going to go with option E.. so when do we go fishing???

But to actually answer your question I don't live in Hancock County but am over there a lot. Very nice area.

It's worse than an epidemic. I was painting a house in a very nice residential neighborhood in a city of 25,000. I looked at the very nice EMPTY house across the street and asked my customer a few questions about the vacant house. He said he saw activity there and thought the homeowner was deceased and his relatives were fixing it up.

Long story short, I came back two weeks later to see that the house had burned down! Seems a meth lab operation had been in there for quite some time and things finally went awry. I thought if it can happen in a nice neighborhood like this, it can happen anywhere.

My little street was on the news for a heroin bust 2 nights ago. Very embarrassing. I read about this often........the police first battered down a door on wrong house. But they said they'd fix it.

They are actually on your property doing this? Load your guns for self defense, and get the cops on the phone immediately.

I live in a town of 8,000 in rural Missouri. A few years ago the FBI designated this area as the meth capital of the US. Apparently they can make meth from anhydrous ammonia. And it's abundant on farms.

If the cops ever looked in my basement windows, they'd probably call the FBI and swat teams and raid my home in full armor gear...

I have a miniature lab in my basement.. chemistry on one side, electronics in the middle, fabrication on the far right.. And on the next wall over, firearms and a few thousand rounds of ammo..

They'd see a centrifuge next to a microscope and a computer screen/keyboard and a set of scales to weigh from 0.0001 grams in a glass cage all the way up to 70 lbs on a table top unit.. They'd see shelves and cabinets full of beakers and jars of chemicals.. Magnetic stir plates and hot plates..
An electronic lab with AC and DC regulated power supplies, oscilloscope, various DMM's, frequency and signal generators, electronics supplies, timers, sensors, wire, etc etc..

I'm fairly certain when they see the guns and ammo, they'd be tossing a flash-bang in next...

Of course, nothing in my possession is illegal to have.. but for someone who doesn't know me to see it all in one place? That would lift a few eyebrows for sure...

I've never looked up what it takes to make meth, but I'm pretty certain I probably have a good stock of it..

I was reading about a new way to make meth a few years ago.. They call it the "Shake and Bake" method..

Apparently it is highly flammable and was killing people left and right. Somewhere out there is a video of some idiot doing it in the back of a car as its driving down the road.. The next thing you see is a big ball of flame coming out the back window! LOL..

You can't fix stupid!

They are not making meth from the anhydrous ammonia. They are using it (with other chemicals) to extract the meth from pseudoephedrine.

Rockstar, it looks like they were on the edge of our property. The guy skidaddled after seeing my dogs in full attack mode though and haven't seen him since. The dogs are uber protective - if a squirrel farts in the next county we know about it. I leave the guns to the other half. The ones he has are as big as I am lol.

PaulBob, I actually had the cops rock up to our house up north one night. I had 2 full saltwater tanks and of course they have the heavy duty lights and so they saw the glow and decided to visit. Guys were great and I showed them everything, ended up being friends over time. They always asked my how the "grow op" was when I saw them in the street. Apparently now they use helicopters to track heat signatures and its a common theme for people with saltwater tanks to get a visit.

On the shake and bake, that is why I am not messing with anything. There was a young boy severely injured down here picking up a backpack in the woods that was a mobile shake and bake. Far too dangerous.

Gym, Yes there is a bit of that down here as well. If I were to buy a property that was vacant for more than 3 months I would be demanding tests to make sure it wasn't used. Apparently they are getting smarter where they go in do there stuff and get out and keep moving. Then there are the not so nice people that know about it, clean it up and then don't say anything. From my understanding if its in the house there is no way to really mitigate it once its in the walls.

In my area, about 1 in 5 house fires are a result of a meth lab

WOW Dawg

Curious, in your situation do you guys go in on a suspected house call or do you guys call someone else in first?

We don't go in...too dangerous. We wait for them to come out or the house burn down.

We have special hazmat teams that handle the inside.
