Scared By A Bug

I go through my regular morning routine shave head, brush teeth, put in contacts, get dressed and head downstairs for breakfast. When I reach the landing on the first floor, I hear dripÖ.dripÖ..drip..drip. It sounds like an inconsistent drip. I canít visually confirm my fears because I walk around with the lights off most of the time.

My mind starts racing immediately, and I go into problem solving mode. The facts that come to mind are; there are no pipes above me, the ceiling is vaulted so the only thing that could leak is the roof, I didnít remember it raining, and Iím standing near the main drain for the upstairs. If itís the roof Iím going to spend a lot of time trying to fix that. Heaven forbid itís the drain, I would have to rip open the wall. Maybe some light would help. I turn on a small hall light, and prepare myself for the source of the leak.

Thereís no water. I look closer at the wood floor and see a small cylindrical gray shape no more than a quarter inch in length. The shape then launches itself six inches in the air. When it lands there is a small tap on the wood. I watch it do this for another two times for assurance sake. Iíve never been so scared by a bug in my life. Scorpions and Black Widows have nothing on this little one.

That's a click beetle, also known as snap beetle. Completely harmless.

The bug may be harmless, but the thought of me spending the time and money to fix something those things was frightening.

even the bug is harmless... or benefitcial even.... having the thought that they are nesting in the roof and multipling over time... will take away 10 years of life for most of the people due to anxiety/scare...

yuk I hate cockroaches, they are so ugly and creepy. Funnily enough spiders don't bother me.

We have been staying out in a rural area in Australia called Tara and you have to be careful because of the ticks. They latch onto your skin and you have to dig them out. They spit some kind of poison into the skin and the area takes weeks to heal.

We are moving out to Tara (don't ask me why) and the thought of these things makes my skin crawl. Ugh

I was ripping up the old floor that was rotted in the shed and all of a sudden there was a mess of little white termites ... no big deal except I knew they had to go. But then as I kept ripping up the floor I saw those bigger Orange headed Soldier termites with the huge mandibles. YUCK. Time to stop ripping up the floor and find the spray. Those things are UGLY ... I saw them in my sleep for weeks.
When I was around five or so, I fell off a banking and got stuck in a rotten stump of a tree. I was stuck there like sitting in a throne and couldn't get out. It was full of ants. Took me YEARS to get over that. I'd be walking down the street and smell a certain smell and sure enough ants would be swarming all over ....
Got rid of those termites (I hope) they were dampwood so I got rid of the dampness problem and the bad wood and found a recipe online for making Timbor and Boracare and sprayed all the wood (avoiding nails). That spray was also fireretardent so it was a good cheap find as I had all the ingredients already.
