Rock Music Brought Me Back to This Site

I got interested in music right around the time that Nirvana broke out (the perfect age for angsty music). I consider myself to appreciate all music, and have been to several concerts (though there isn't a great venue around here for the really big shows). Probably the best was Jethro Tull in the late 90's...it was a small auditorium show, older audience, I was 14-15. INCREDIBLE show. They had a local bass player they had audition a few weeks earlier come onstage to play 'Bouree' with them...the guy was awesome and in awe of his luck. Now I check out a lot of local bands. I have a friend (multi-instrumentalist) that plays in 5 or 6 bands in the Twin Cities and catch them any time I can. They put on a show called Rhythmic Circus (music and tap dance)...I went to high school with a few of them and now they're well known in parts of Europe and so on...always amazes me.

Another friend living in St Paul was forced to a Lady Gaga concert a few months ago (by his significantly younger, 'hipper' girlfriend)...he said it was his own personal version of hell. I'm still not done laughing about that.

There MIGHT be hope but I seriously doubt that history will repeat what happened to music in the 60's and 70's. As for the Canadians, Neil Young came from there so they are all OK in my book

wow, its the SAME here. there is SO MUCH GOOD older music. and yet they beat the crap out of a few songs.

its not for the advertisers = they could care less. its for ratings. ratings = $$$.
what they don't understand, is that they are making people sick of that. and they are going to downloaded music= less ratings for the radio.

nearly all of the new rock music is crap. ok, maybe not crap, but not my style. i am 70's and 80's hair bands, and ROCK.
I have been to dozens of concerts. but they are getting fewer and fewer , as the band are dieing off.

No need to be stuck in the past, there is a ton of great music being recorded all the time. You just have to sift through the mainstream garbage

Step 1: Turn off the radio.
Step 2: Turn off the TV.

Bad moment in music: Sinatra concert in Pittsburgh where he couldn't remember the lyrics. They brought out a telepromter.
